Bored of using the same fonts in your web design?

Using the same web safe fonts for every web design may be great for coding but it’s not very creative! There are various ways to get around this issue with Cufon and sIFR, but these are a little weighty with Flash and JavaScript, meaning the usage of them is limited.

Thanks to Google introducing Google Web Fonts those dark days of typography restrictions are now over!

With a range of fonts available, extremely lightweight, no need for JavaScript, and SEO friendly with real text, Google Web Fonts really are the best way to embed custom fonts into your web design.

Using a Google font in your web design couldn’t be easier, select the font you want by clicking “Add to Collection”, grab the standard stylesheet code which should look something like this:

<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Average+Sans' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>

You can then use your selected font in your CSS with a standard ‘font-family’ declaration:

font-family: 'Average Sans', sans-serif;

And voilà custom fonts in your project!
